INTRODUCTION 

Founded in 1995, the Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) is a student-run organization dedicated to the support of the Pan-African student experience at Claremont Graduate University (CGU). The CGU BGSA is associated with the National Black Graduate Student Association (NBGSA).
 

The National Black Graduate Student Association

The NBGSA is a non-profit, student-run organization dedicated to improving the status of African Americans in higher education by systematically identifying and addressing their needs and concerns. 

NBGSA membership is open to graduate students, academicians, institution, corporations and other groups and/or individuals who are interested in supporting students of African descent as they participate and succeed in higher education. 

 

BGSA's Mission 

The BGSA supports a variety of objectives including the following, which parallel the mission of the NBGSA.

  • Provide Resources that will enhance the likelihood of academic and career success of current graduate and professional students. 
  • Develop a network of emerging African descended scholars dedicated and sensitive to the needs and concerns of an increasingly diverse academic community.
  • Create forums of interdisciplinary and collaborative research fostering the intellectual aspirations of black academics.
  • Assist preparation of future faculty and professionals.
  • Encourage involvement with other BGSA organization nationwide to exchange scholarly ideas and goals with people of globally minded interests and backgrounds.
  • Represent high academic standards of Claremont Graduate University and showcase the innovative scholarship produced at CGU. 
  • Protocol for suggestions: forms that could be used as addendums
